Favorite Picture Book Blogfest

I've been meaning to talk about this for a while.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Gerald and Piggy books.
They are perfect for early readers.

The colors are muted.

The pictures are simplistic.

The words are easy.

But it all comes together in a perfect package.  I'm always blown away at the clever twists and how much emotion  Mo Willems can get from a single line.

My favorite is Can I Play Too?

Gerald and Piggy want to play catch,  but when a snake shows up, a new problems arises,  how can you play catch with someone with no arms?

Gerald and Piggy try to play with him with hugely funny effects.  I won't spoil it but it makes both me and my daughter laugh.

The problem is solved in an genius way and it teaches tolerance and compassion.

Mo Willems is a wonderful artist.  The final knufflebunny book made me SOB in Target. I still can't get through it with my kid.   Go forth and buy all of his books.

  1. "Go forth and buy all of his books" is the most excellent advice I've seen in a long time. Mo is brilliant! Every one of his books I've picked up is just priceless.

  6. Best picture book = All My Friends Are Dead. It's like a picture book, but for people other than kids. xD

  7. I feel so guilty that I never heard of this--or many PBs, actually. I guess it's because I don't have kids--something which my mom wants to remedy very soon.

  10. I am very embarrassed to say I've never read a book by Mo Willems (in my defense, I live in a non-English-speaking country). But I definitely need to stock up on my next trip to the States!
