So I just hit save on my latest WIP, Universal Breakdown.
It's a whole 37K and 151 pages. I've been writing long enough to know that a Sh*tty rough draft is an understatement.
This book is going to be a beast to revise.
Mostly because I planned it to be the first in a trilogy, but since the first book is SO short I don't know if I should just go ahead and write book two and make it into 1 book.
The other big problem I had, about four weeks ago, I fell out of love with it. The writing wasn't as strong as I knew it should be and I sort of just wanted to get to the "good" stuff in book two.
And I wanted to start a different WIP.
And I have a TON of revising to do for Penny and Hank
And I have to Beta Alicia's book, because I feel insanely guilty that I haven't gotten to.
And writing has sort of broken my heart.
But that's another blog post.
For now I can just be happy I finished my latest WIP.
And now for motivational vid: Enjoy
'[W]riting has sort of broken my heart'. To get completely sappy on you, let writing heal you. (I know, right? *So* sappy.) Since you have to let the WIP sit before you revise, go and have fun with another story that you can fall in love with.
ReplyDeleteAnd hello, you finished a book. Congratulations!
Sometimes you have to take a step back to move froward. You can do this!!
ReplyDeleteI meant forward! Not sure where froward would take you. To the Shire, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteAw Erinn, writing is breaking my heart, too. I FEEL your pain.
ReplyDeleteI have been rethinking stand alones lately. I got through yet another book from a series in the last month and thought, what a tease you are, author, spending thousands of words leading us to just another purchase. How cruel. So I say merge books one and two, stat, especially if it gets you excited about the project again. :0)
Congrats on finishing! You should focus on that accomplishment. If writing something new will get you excited about writing again, I say go for it.
ReplyDeletethe videos so cute
